Little Box o' Happy by silvertales Little Box o' Happy by silvertales
Just a little box of what makes me happy.... my Copic marker collection. It has taken a LONG time and a number of generous gift certificates from friends and family for birthdays and holidays, but this box contains every color currently produced by Copic with the exception of the Toner Grays, Fluorescent colors, and the "new for 2009/2010" colors that were just released.

There are a number of the original Copic markers in the box, and one day, I hope to swap them for the sketch versions as I prefer the brush tip over the small, inflexible original square marker tip.

Though i definitely prefer sketch markers, i actually REALLY like the original ones. I really like the square shape more than the oval sketch. Though, i like brush tips. That's why i have more brush tip prismacolors, but i do like copics better. It's mainly the price, but it's also the fact that i began with prismas.

I actually started my collection in March, and i already have about 40 markers.

YAY ME!!!

I started with Prismas, too..... I think everybody did at some point. The brush tip for Prismas is relatively new, and while I think it's great that they've (finally) adapted a brush tip, I'm not a big fan of the formula. I originally started collecting the Copic originals, until I discovered the brush tips in the sketch markers... and, for the way I work, I definitely prefer the brush tips.

They are *definitely* pricey, but worth it, especially when lots of retailers have sales/coupons/free shipping deals. :)

The brush prismacolor tips are quite clever, I agree, but no where in comparison in copic brand, but they work fine for hard cell shading or comic books or something else.

I do hope to have more copics in the future. Thx for reading, and responding! ^^

I've found that the successful use of art supplies more often depends less on what they are than how they're used.

That said, while Prismacolors are fine markers and wonderfully inexpensive, and I usually use them for convention commissions, I don't like how they dry and they tend to be streakier and have less consistent pigmentation than Copics. Copics are *definitely* an investment, and it has taken me a loooooong time to build up the color selection that I have (that said, there are definitely colors I use a lot more frequently than others.)

If you're looking to start collecting Copics for use, I suggest starting with the Cool and Warm grayscale markers. It's amazing the kinds of tonal variation and simulation you can get with a set of Cool and Warm grays.
