So, another Otakon over and done with

Mon Jul 20, 2009, 9:25 PM
Met lots of really cool deviants, some I've been following for years, others brand new to me!

* waves to :iconblix-it: :iconeldanis: and :iconlone-momo: *

Thanks for making this a wonderfully inspirational Otakon!

The original plan called for =exileddelusion =NenaLuna and I to sit in a block of three tables, along with ~kemonoart and basically just have loads of relaxed, if artsy fun, like we do during a lot of the summer cons. However, that did not come to pass... oh well. Maybe next year.

Instead, had a table next to ~blix-it! Much fun was had in our little corner of the Island Known As BB.

Got a couple of suggestions for the AA staff for how to make this a more streamlined procedure and I'll probably email or post to the forum... for all that good it will do.

Spent Sunday night in Baltimore, and had dinner at Edo Sushi in the Inner Harbor (I HIGHLY recommend the Black Dragon Roll, Sakuramaki, Asparagus/bacon yakitori, the iced green tea, and the green tea and red bean mochi ice cream.... SOOOOO good!!!! My friend Amy and I stuffed ourselves silly on ridiculously good sushi and then bought fudge before watching the street performers for a while.

Amy also got me hooked on Kuroshitsuji ("Black Butler")... damn her! I'm doomed to being suckered into another series! ACK!

Anyway... flight home delayed due to bad weather, so I worked up a couple of rough sketchy things while sucking down WAY too much overpriced airport lounge coffee.... but had seats A,B, and C of row 15 to myself once we boarded the flight. That was pretty cool. :)

Rediscovered that there is NO good part of Miami International Airport, but at least I know the maze like the back of my hand, so random construction and various concourse detours, while resulting in a mile-plus hike through the airport to get from my plane to bagagge claim, I found myself at the head of the expedition leading a number of lost and weary travellers like some kind of tour guide. Was rather amusing...

Home now... and have to figure out what to do about the three cons I have to mail to before attending AFO in Orlando at the end of the month since I left my entire stock of prints with ~kemonoart who was kind enough to schlep them home with him to help me make the weight limit on my luggage. Thanks, ~kemonoart!

Now? Need sleep... and to try and replicate Edo Sushi's iced green tea... not neccessarily in that order.

  • Mood: Daily Needs
  • Listening to: "View To A Kill" - DuranDuran
  • Reading: "No Ordinary Genius" - Christopher Sykes
  • Watching: Kuroshitsuji
  • Playing: pin the allergic reaction on the kitty
  • Eating: peanut butter-chocolate fudge
  • Drinking: Dr. Pepper (gee, what a surprise)

Yeaah glad you had fun ^_^. Yeah! Black Butler is an awesome series :D I love it too. Also I very much agree with you on Miami International, I have to drive and pick up my parents there all the time and very sight of it makes me sick -___-;; and the worked there are the worst. Anyways glad your home safe and stuff :D

I'm glad to help! Argh, I hope that there is a lot of pressure brought to bear upon the Otakon Alley for all the crap that happened this year.
:iconsilvertales:
Thanks much, hon! :)

Yeah, I'm well and truly sucked in to "Black Butler" now... its hopeless. :)

*heh* Yeah, Miami International makes my stomach tie up in knots every time I have to go there. Its just so stressful, particularly having to drive around!

Will you be at AFO this year?

I appreciate the help more than I can say... every time.

Yeah, me, too. It seems as though, with just the tiniest bit of insight or forethought a LOT of the issues could have been eased, if not completely resolved. With any luck, staff will be willing to listen to suggestions and take advice without getting defensive.

I'm waiting for the ire to die down, both on the boards and my own irritation to subside before I let my own opinion be known. I want to come across as patient, rational, and understanding even though I was anything but at the time, but it never hurts to dial down the antagonism if you want to actually GET somewhere.

Will reply to LJ messages soon...

*nodnods* I've not read updates on the feedback thread, but I would say that you would definitely be in similar company among the respondents given what they were saying. The responses to the feedback issues, well, they are somewhat informative about what was going on at the time. In fact, you were wondering why they switched everyone around that time? That's because he was given the wrong map or last year's layout or somesuch, and he had to scrap his placements and that is when the placements went to hell.

But yes, approaching the whole thing calmly and rationally is going to be necessary because I'm pretty certain that he's going to be running things next year too.

Take your time on replies, it was quite a bit to go through this past weekend!

I'm soooooooooooooooo glad I finally got up the nerve to talk to you. Thanks for being so awesome!! Are you doing any more cons this year? (I feel like I probably asked you that already, but I'm blonde today; humor me XD; )
:iconsilvertales:
*laughs*

Its funny you say that because I'm soooooo glad I finally got up the nerve to talk to you! :) Thanks for being so awesome, too! I loved talking with you and ~demonfartcabbage both at my table and yours! :)

I think my last con AA this year is AFO in Orlando next weekend. I'll be at YaoiCon, but I help the volunteer chair there. I'd love to do Dragon*Con or AWA, but I never remember in time to get tables and never know anyone else who is going in time to make arrangements!

You? Any more cons for you this year?
